Support the Track
The RC Corral isn’t a faceless business where you show up, pay your $5 and race. It’s Pete’s house. It’s more community-style. There’s no up front fee. But there are still things required to keep the place up, and costs involved.
There are several ways you can show your support for the RC Corral.
One obvious way is with cash money. You can hit the button to donate via PayPal if you’d like
But that’s not the only way you can support the track.
Donations of supplies are always welcome. Things like:
- Beer — There’s almost as much ‘just hanging out’ as there is racing on most days. And hanging out goes good with beer. The common house brand is Miller Lite (meaning, that’s what the owner buys) but no donation of beer will be refused. None.
- Snacks — Pretzels, Cheeseballs, Chips, Jerkey, Combos, etc. Anything that is an easy hand-held food works well. Anything that requires utensils and/or plates doesn’t work so well. Big bulk items like you can find at Sams Club work great.
- Bug Spray — The track is in a pretty wooded area, so the bugs get really thick. Decent bug spray is a must for any evening sessions. Mr. Cooley was kind enought to donate a fogger, if you have bulk insect killer, that works as well.
- Paper Towels/Wipes — Good for far too many things, of course. Plain paper towels, or cleaning (wet) wipes of any kind can always come in handy.
- Juice/Soda — Several people bring their kids along for the racing action, so having non- alcoholic beverages around doesn’t hurt. If you’re not a beer drinker, maybe bring something in this category.
- Weed Killer — Round-Up or other more lethal things. Taming back the unruly “nature” that tries to interfere with the racing is an ongoing battle. And a battle needs ammunition.
Heavier Equipment style donations aren’t a bad idea either. Nice shovels, rakes, or other track maintenance style tools. Check with Pete to see what might be needed, but keep it in mind. Especially if you know someone with a skid loader that wouldn’t mind bringing it out to move dirt around.
Putting in time helps too, of course. Raking, de-rocking, filling in washed out bits. A good bit of labor is just as valuable to the overall track as hard goods.
The more everybody pitches in, the better the track can be.
